Dad' Book.

The is the last day of the year, (2018).  New Year's eve seems to inherently make us all nostalgic.  As of late I have been in a reflective state of mind.  I am currently writing my father's biography with the hopes of self publication by the anniversary of his passing; it'll bee 11 years come this April 2nd,  2019.   A few months back my sister Cindy passed away. Just too many endings and things gone by.

A sad Visit

The grandchildren came over and spent the weekend with us.  We had a great time.  I took the three of them to the park and we walked the dogs.  In a conversation, my grandson Jamison said he had no idea and even took him a moment to think about his middle name; I said you were named after me. Oh I did not know that. 5th grader.  Talking about Christmas and what it was about Savannah said Oh it's just about getting presents, and Jamison blurted out "yeah and no it has nothing to do with Jesus either."  I informed them that "CHRIST" comes from Jesus Christ, and the mass was a religious service; and therefor that actually yes, Christ-mas had everything to do with Jesus.

The Missing Room

   “What’s  wrong?”
   “Wrong?”
   “Yes, you look – upset.”
   “Upset?”
“Yes, you went into the house and then turned around and just came back out, looking – scared.   So, what’s wrong?”
“I started going into our house, but then it wasn’t our house.”
“I wasn’t our house, what do you mean?”
“No.  No, it wasn’t our house.  Everything was different, changed; the walls, the lights, even the smells.  The floors were – different, tiled, even the lights were brighter.  I went in and every room was larger, decorated differently.  Then I overheard distant voices and went to find who they were.  They were muttering in a different language but then a moment later I could understand them, but they were talking about things – that couldn’t have been possible or just not right.  Then I came to the room with a huge dining table and saw two men and two women discussing –I couldn’t listen anymore and then turned to leave and  that’s when I was  coming out the door again.  That’s when you saw me.  What’s wrong; everything in there?
“Yes, I’m very scared, because I know if I go in there again it will be our house and then I’ll realize I’m going mad.  I must be losing my mind to think I saw what I did and know that if I go back in there it won’t be.  I must be crazy thinking about a missing room.”
The woman smiled reassuringly, “Savil, you’re not going mad or crazy, you’re just exhausted from working out in the heat.”
“Thank you for that Dena,” He quivered, “I love you too, but I am going mad for I remembered now what those voices were talking about.”
She asked, “The people in the ‘missing room’?”
“Yes, about how we lived – and died.”

I am currently working on two distinctly different novels, one has an Epic fantasy setting and the other modern-contemporary.  Characters from one are dreaming  about characters from the other as the others are seeing and experiences the other world as well.  Time travel crossover.

THE ELEVATOR

ONE:  THE BOX
   “Love your BEATLES shirt!”
   “Thanks.”
“Wow, seems such a long time ago.”
“I know.  How did we ever survive growing up with no seatbelts or GPS?”
“Yep, the world has changed that’s for sure.”
“Right, remember when they use to play music in these things?”
   “Is it even moving?”
   “Don’t think so.”
“They have cameras in here these days, I’m sure if something was wrong they’d figure it out soon.”
“I’ll just hit the fourth floor again, and you?”
   “Fifth, thanks.”
“Sure.  No problem.  Ugh, my cell phone just died!”
   “It’s two-sixteen.”
   “Ah.”
“My daughter just had her second child.”
   “Well, congratulations, grandma!”
   “Thank you, sir.”
   “Nice flowers.”
“Ah, thanks, for the church secretary.  She was in a car wreck.”
“Oh my goodness I’m so sorry to hear that.  I hope she is alright.”
“Yeah, she’s fine actually.  She stopped short for a red light and was rear ended by a Cop.”
   “A Cop, WOW, that’s a new one.”
“He wrote her a ticket anyway, saying the light was green.”
   “That figures.”
“She was late for her last chemo treatment, which was the real reason she’s here. –Got a name?”
   “Oh! Uhm, Sandra.”
“Maybe that’s too cute of a name for a new grandson?”
“Yeah, Oh I thought you meant mine, sorry.  Steven Joshua Michaels.”
   “Good solid name.”
   “Yours?”
“Lydia, she’s nine, Marcy eleven, and Lisa is fourteen by now.  They’re all growing up so fast.”
“I bet.  I mean what is your name.”
   “Ah, right – Randal Mathers.”
   “Very nice.”
   “Why thank you, Sandra.  Time?”
“Two-nineteen, I know this thing still isn’t moving is it?”
   “Nope.”
“I wouldn’t be too concerned.  Sure we’re more worried about being stuck in here than the poor sap who’s still pecking at the buttons above us.”
“Well, wish they’d stop.  I’m out of bars, and my charger is in my daughter’s room.  I would love to see the baby before he graduates college.”
   “Sorry.”
“Sorry, I went to go get some coffee down stairs in the cafeteria but they were out.”
   “Don’t ya hate that?”
“Don’t they usually have a phone in there?”
“Um, looks like the Firefighters have to have a specialized kind of key to open it up.”
“Guess I’m not the patient sort, cooped up in steel boxes.  Really hate small spaces.  A few years ago a thunderstorm caused a blackout up at the mall, and I was stuck in an elevator for nearly four hours.  At least we could somewhat see out of the glass, thanks to the skylight.”
   “We?”
“Seven of us altogether, three of which were very rowdy and scared kids.”
   “Goodness sounds like fun.”
   “Anything but.”
“I bet.  Doubt we’ll be stuck in here that long today Sandra.  Hospitals are a little more up on things – I hope.”
   “We’ll see, right?”
“What church do you go to, Randal?”
   “I don’t.”
   “The – church secretary?”
“Oh, she’s just a neighbor, and Catholic I think.”
“Well, it was nice of you to bring her flowers.”
“She watches my dog from time to time and no one likes being in the hospital alone.”
   “That’s true.”
“What church do you go to, Sandra?”
“Oh, now my phone died.  Uhm, Second Fellowship Baptist on Ruth Street.  You’re more than welcome to come anytime ya like.”
“Thanks, but I probably won’t, Atheist.”
   “Oh.”
“Sorry about the dead phone it’ll start feeling a lot longer in here now that we are both out of luck.”
   “Did you feel that?”
“Yeah and I noticed the lights flicker a second there too.”
“Ah, here’s my off.  Good luck with the new baby grandma.”
“Thanks, Mr. Mathers.  Hope I don’t get stranded in here alone now.”
   “Hope not.”

THE BACK AND FORTH

THE BACK AND FORTH
“I’m having those dreams again, those about the couple talking about me; the ones I told you about.  They’re dressed in strange clothes, reading from a book and talking about me.”
   “What are they saying?”
   “What?”
“What are they saying about you?”
“About us, they’re talking – about us, you and me.”
   “What are they saying?”
“They’re – they’re talking about how we died, as if it was a long time ago.”
   “Died?”
   “Yes.  You drowned.”
“Me!  What – what about you?”
“I – I was the one who found you, and then apparently I went off and hung myself.”
   “It’s just a dream.”
   “A dream?”
“Yes, dreams seem real – at the time, and then you wake up.”
“I was never asleep, I was walking along and suddenly saw them; when I saw you floating in the water, tomorrow.”

The Shadowed Smile

The waking dreams were as real as walking into another room while wide awake, as if from one place into another time.  I heard a voice calling me from outside and when I stood at the front door to leave, I was entering the Chapel nave.  The benched-line white room was empty of everyone excepted a boxed urn and her flower-wreathed portrait.  Again her voice called me.  Upon whirling about my sister's shadowed smile was calling me to the kitchen table for super as the family awaited my arrival.

THE TALE OF ELJO
..................
A day came when Eljo spoke a harsh tone to his father Bazel, “Do as you wish father, you are a grown man, for there is no reason for you to hold my hand any longer.  I am no child.”
Bazel replied, “Is it not you my son that instead I should be the one saying such a thing to you?”
“Even now father?  Ever you go on about yourself in turning my words against me in your own favor.  As I said, do as you wish and bother me no more for I am my own person to be left alone.”
“As you wish, Eljo but you are loved.”
“You as well,” he reluctantly gave.

Later on, by the light of a pale full moon Eljo was found laughing amid his friends throwing gambling dice.  One of the six, a Ruffen, the brother of Jo’ban, Eljo’s closest companion spied a shadow crossing down a street on the walls of a distant home.  Ruffen called out, “Come fellows, let us make sport of the unsuspecting vagabond who passes yonder.  These dice have bored me and perchance there are better winnings to be gained elsewhere.”
In one accord they rose up with bent smiles eager for malice.  They pursued the speeding long-shadow.  Drawing near they found the figure to be that of a young woman.  Their pounding hearts rushed into a different lustful direction with open laughter.  As they soon fell upon her in their advancements against her will.  They tossed her to the ground and began rapping her.  Instead of waiting their turn after Ruffen, the others began sharing themselves with one another in like manner and took over when he was done with the girl.
It was in that moment and cause that had called Bazel’s own attention from venturing late to his sister’s home.  Upon seeing the entangled bodies the old man called out to the men.  One by one he pulled them off the horrified woman leaving the men still standing naked with no shame.
Not recognizing his son, Eljo then spoke out saying, Old man what have I to do with you and your affairs?”
Robing the naked woman in his own cloak, Bazel said to him, “You are your own, but she is not yours nor did I teach you by word or deed to so behave in such a manner.” They turned as the father aided the girl to her home in the opposite direction.
But still being naked themselves and full of rage for having their winnings plucked from them, the men came against the parting strangers.  Again they assaulted the woman even more violently than before, as they made the old man watch their enjoyment.  Soon afterwards Bazel was beaten, and what was done to the girl was now done to him with much laughter.
With stick in hand Eljo lead his band of brothers in the beating of his father, till neither his nor the woman’s face remained.  Only after being bathed in blood did they all dress one another and soon found their way to the home of Jo’ban on the other side of the city of Lindol.  After strong drink the early morning found them all still in exhausted slumber and nakedness.

Such were the deeds and time of the Elioud, those apostate sons who abandoned their Nephilim father’s teachings, ere the days of Noah.

The Ode of Fayendar

Seven tomes of ancient lore
kept sacred by locks and keys
about sigiled Judges and fallen Kings
with mystic Priests and fiery Prophets;
yet, amid them all a hero walked
in that darkened Nephilim age,
ere the world was washed away.

It was in those lost days of Adam,
after Cain’s violent fame was won,
when the immortal Sons of God
took the daughters of lesser men;
from those wives children were born
renown as teacher among the lesser men
called heroic giants, and Nephilim Lords.

From those far off eastern lands
Harad’s defeated forces fled
their war-torn realms for the
Ancient Shores of whispered hope;
there, they met that harbored remnant
of forgotten immortals so gathered
behind their vine-laced walls once fair.

Before Mithar those Bedouins pitched
their weary tents for commerce,
the trade of friendship, not to usurp;
with herds and daughters to give,
they sought their journey’s end
and learn from such tutors
what new skills they may.

In their meeting, that Judge Shadol
humbly came with broken heart, did praise
that fair sea-land King beside the Bay;
on behalf of his tribal father
desired the murderer be imprisoned;
thusly, in that lighthouse tower
was how their alliance was forged.

Under King Vendumar’s fair rule
they grew more subservient
in the secrecy of arrogant might;
as their tent-dwelling kin
were shunned for pagan beliefs
in retaining their skin-art traditions
yet remained free beyond the walls.

In time the lowly Nasil
became as students before
those fair Mitharian nobles;
by ritual lessons in secret rite
were they raised as stonemasons,
ship builders and fishermen,
then masters of elder lore.

A new people had come forth
from a forgotten few and dismayed
beneath the shadowed of a tower,
whose King’s words were law;
they came to be viewed as divine
before a fallen world in need
of their restored Light of Truth.

Taking a BREAK from Facebook

I'm taking a break from Facebook's social media of overwhelming political and blitz drama for a while.  I'm getting caught up on a few portrait line-drawings, and my Scroll Artwork "translations" as well.
I put in a job bid for another position at work.  I'm a Rehab Tech II and the new position is the same Staff Supervisor; just a lateral move, but the duties will be different in that it'll be in a "warehouse" atmosphere.  The individual clients will be working for pay toward completing Contracted Orders for out sourced companies in  the real world off campus.

Zanell

Ara-a-non visited a woman of Slavath one late night.  She was the wife of a merchant.  He was away gathering supplies at Kathos.  Aranon had seduced Zanell with flattering words.  Later she secretly invited him for more than words when her husband went away again.
At night she opened the doorway of her tent for him wearing only thin veils as ...
